The rumours of an iPhone just keep on doing the rounds. Over on a thread on Macrumo(u)rs, and this post specifically, forum user ‘lofight’ has come up with one that I actually like! If they did make an iPhone nano, this is what I would want it to look like !

Today saw the release of the beta 2 of xcode 3.1, including including the iPhone enabled version of Interface Builder.

The download is a whopping 2.1GB package, and Apple’s servers are getting a battering, so maybe best to leave it a while.

Safari on PC = illegal !

In a foot in mouth moment only Apple could manage, someone on their legal team has got a bit carried away when writing the Safari SLA.

2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.
This License allows you to install

and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-labeled computer at a time.

The Apple Software may be used to reproduce materials so long as such use is limited to reproduction of non-copyrighted materials, materials in which you own the copyright, or materials you are authorized or legally permitted to reproduce. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time, and you may not make the Apple Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time. You may make one copy of the Apple Software in machine-backup copy must include all copyright or other proprietary notices contained on the original.

Ooops.

So all of you (well, both of you) who are using Safari on a PC had better get ready for a knock at the door.

Or not.

SwirlyMMS updated to 0.3.6

I managed to do something very wrong yesterday, which resulted in my having to restore, re-unlock and re-jailbreak my iPhone. While in the process if reinstalling all the rubbish I seem to need, I noticed that SwirlyMMS has been updated to 0.0.3.

This update fixes two major issues, according to the Swirlyspace Blog.

First off, the text-size limit of 2048 has now been removed, which I can only assume is a good thing.

Secondly, and much more important, is the news that O2-UK users can now receive SMS messages. This has been a bit of a problem for many, and the source of countless threads popping up all over the internet. All you O2 users can now send & receive messages like the rest of us. Welcome to the party !

Apple today released the latest security update to hit Leopard. Released for both Leopard client and Leopard server, Software Update simply states:

Security Update 2008-002 is recommended for all users and improves the security of Mac OS X. Previous security updates have been incorporated into this security update.

Not the most exciting of updates, but security updates never are !

Web layout changes – Things may get a little crazy!

Posted in Uncategorized on March 26, 2008 by ojhaslam

Just a little warning that I’m making a few changes to the layout of the site, so things may look a little screwy for a few minutes. Fear not, things will be working again soon. I hope!

Cheers

UPDATE

I’ve finished with the layout (for now), hope everyone likes it. I wanted to make better use of the space at the top of the page.

Please feel free to let me know what you think, either using the comments or ‘contact us’ form.

Already done a fix!

One more thing before I forget, when I first got my new best friend I was having some problems with Safari, namely that every time I logged into a site after a minute or so it kicked me off and I had to log in again. A little investigation revealed that this is a problem affecting some, but not all iPhones, regardless of jailbreaking, and is to do with the way the cookie folder is set up. Now, for the technically minded among you there is a way to get into the folder and rename it yourself, but quite frankly I wasn’t touching that with a bargepole.

I did, however come across a neat little doohickey that does it all for you! Just add http://appledailytimes.com/installer as a source in installer, and up pops 1.1.4 Cookie Fix. once you’ve downloaded it it does it’s thing and then very kindly tells you that you can delete it. Takes 2 minutes and I haven’t had a problem since.

Unfortunately, Apple seem to be either unaware of this or just haven’t got around to doing anything about it yet, so those with pure as the driven snow iPhones can’t do diddly squat about it. But honestly, how many of those are there knocking about!?

It must be love…

So, as Oli has already told you, I finally caved in last week and got a shiny new 8GB Iphone of my very own after weeks of stealing his to play with! And I have to say, it was well worth it. After less than a week I’ve already no idea how I ever lived without it! Checking your email on a computer? Actually watching the news and weather? So last month! Although I do worry that now we’ve got one each we may stop talking to each other completely…
I’m still a little light on apps though (I do so love to fill things with crap), so if anyone knows of anything cool that might appeal please do let me know in the comments section.

Apple already ordered its 3G iPhones?

Posted in Apple, iPhone on March 26, 2008 by ojhaslam

Original story

Rumours are circulating that Apple has already placed an order for 10,000,000 3G iPhones. That’s presumably on top of the 10m of the original iPhone that Apple expects to sell in 2008.

This would also appear to fit in with the thought that we will be seeing the 2nd generation unit some time in the next few months.

Will you be upgrading if and when the 3G iPhone comes out? Let us know in the comments section!

Mike Bombich has just released a Carbon Copy Cloner, or CCC, update which brings the software up to 3.1.

A popular backup tool, CCC allows the complete cloning of a HDD, ready for restoration either on the same disk, or a new one. Pretty useful stuff.

Carbon Copy Cloner 3.1 is available for download now
